Welcome to Saffron Walden Liberal Democrats
From the next General Election, Saffron Walden Constituency will be composed of the District of Uttlesford plus the Broomfield & Writtle area in the Borough of Chelmsford. Here, in the north-west of Essex, Liberal Democrats are the only party seriously challenging the Conservatives. In all recent elections (District, Borough, County, Parliamentary and European) Liberal Democrats finished ahead of Labour.
Conservatives Open Floodgates to Massive Housing Development in Uttlesford
Following the enthusiastic support of Uttlesford Council's ruling Conservative councillors for a 3000-house eco-community near Elsenham, the Labour government has proposed a 5000-house eco-community for the site. These 5000-plus houses may well be on top of the 4200 new houses that the government has already foisted on Uttlesford. If the government proposal goes ahead, the original 4200 new houses may well have to go elsewhere in the District.

Clegg Opposes Labour's Expansion of Stansted

Speaking at a public meeting in Chelmsford on Thursday 9th October, Liberal Democrat Party Leader Nick Clegg MP, said, in response to the first question asked, that he was totally opposed to the expansion of Stansted Airport.

WHAT ARE OUR STREETS FOR?

The national 'In Town, Without My Car' day passed this week (22 September) without being even acknowledged by the ruling Conservative party at Essex County Council, denying local communities any chance to participate. This annual campaign is run to remind all highway users, that our streets are shared by road and pavement users and that there are other people using the same space.

Tories Raid Playing Fields Fund

TORIES CAN'T FOOL ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME

Despite spending millions of pounds on road maintenance, less than half of local residents are not satisfied with the speed in which potholes are fixed or with the quality of the repairs. These are the findings of a review of Essex County Council's highways maintenance initiative from the Conservative-led administration.
